Solar Shading

Solar shading helps control heat and sunlight entering a property while maintaining natural light and outdoor views. Systems such as pergola shading, exterior screens and architectural overhangs can reduce indoor temperatures and improve comfort during the summer months. In Mediterranean homes, well-designed shading is an important part of overall energy and glazing performance.

In warm climates, large glazed openings can allow significant amounts of solar heat to enter the home. While natural light and outdoor views are desirable, uncontrolled sunlight can increase indoor temperatures and place greater demand on air conditioning systems. Solar shading helps regulate this balance by limiting direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day.

Different shading approaches can be used depending on the orientation and design of the property. Pergolas, roof extensions and architectural overhangs provide fixed shading that reduces direct sun exposure, while adjustable systems such as exterior screens or louvres allow shading levels to be adapted throughout the day.

When incorporated into villa design, solar shading works alongside glazing systems to manage light, temperature and comfort within the property. By reducing heat gain while preserving daylight and views, shading contributes to a more balanced and energy-efficient living environment.
